My verdict: you are buying logistics, not a better boat. This is a full ten-hour day that collects you in Osaka, delivers you to the Kameoka pier and puts you back down in Arashiyama with the boat ticket already paid for. Nothing about the ride itself improves because you came from further away. If you are based in Osaka, have one day, and refuse to spend it decoding a rail map, that is a real reason to book it. Otherwise the same river is available for much less from Kyoto.
